This week, we have been reading The Hepatitis Comics blog, with the excellent subtitle Bile humor and hepatainment to tickle your liver.
The blog is authored by Lucinda K Porter, a nurse, writer and community educator who also has hepatitis C. Lucinda has undergone treatment twice, but hasn’t let this dampen her spirits or her sense of fun.
Up and running since 2009, the blog contains a variety of topical jokes, useful health information and updates from the medical profession. A published writer, Lucinda’s work has featured in Liver Health Today, Hepatitis magazine, the Union and the San Jose Mercury News. She has also recently given a TED talk which can be seen on YouTube.
Lucinda has a website dedicated to her work as an advocate and recently published a book entitled Free from Hepatitis C, her guide to the latest diagnosis and treatments. She can also be found on Twitter and Facebook.
Here’s a recent blog post to give you an idea of her style: “A group of chess enthusiasts (one or more of whom may have hepatitis C) checked into a hotel and were standing in the lobby discussing their recent tournament victories. After about an hour, the manager (who is a Baby Boomer, so he needs to get a hepatitis C test) came out of the office and asked them to disperse. “But why?” they asked, as they moved off. “Because”, he said, I can’t stand chess-nuts boasting in an open foyer.”
