Free hepatitis C screening available for UAE residents

December 21st, 2012

The Emirates Gastroenterology and Hepatology Society (EGHS) have organized the first hepatitis C prevention campaign encouraging United Arab Emirates (UAE) residents to get screened for the condition.

Free screening will be provided for around 4,000 residents during the two month long national awareness drive at social clubs and shopping malls in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Al Ain and Sharjah.

Dr Maryam Alkatry, President of EGHS, stated at the launch of the drive that the purpose is to “educate the public on effective disease management, treatment options and the steps that can be taken to increase patients” adherence to improve their treatment outcomes’.

Residents can find out more about the screening centers by registering on www.hepc.ae or calling the local toll-free number 800 4372.
